ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is considered innovative.  I combine felt, paint and wood. I have developed this process through years of experimentation and exploration. I love the intense color and texture achieved by wet-felting raw wool. My wall pieces are at once art, craft and design.  My background lies in fiber, but I’ve always been fascinated by wood. In order to achieve integration between the materials, I allow the wood to set the tone for the piece.  As I use a router to create the channel which houses the felt inlay, my mind is racing with ideas for the color, form and composition the felt will take as I inlay it as cross-sections into the channel. The paint changes the soft nature of the edges of the felt and enhances the color, taking fiber to a more sculptural place. My pieces are screaming to be touched with their color and texture.

COMMISSIONS

When I can fit them into my schedule, I am happy to work with you to co-create a custom piece that suits your space. I have done numerous custom pieces and can provide references.

There are numerous ways to approach a commission. The images to the right represent work I have created over the past few years and may serve as a reference point for a similar commissioned piece. To quote a price,  I will need the overall dimensions and wood you are interested in, plus depending on the composition, either photographs of a scene or swatches for color in the case of an abstract design.

I have found that commissions require a lot of extra work in terms of communications and my own efforts in trying to determine what you are expecting as well as making swatches and sending wood samples.  Pricing is commensurate with these efforts and pieces typically cost a bit more than similar sized works you may see at a show.

My terms: A 50% non refundable deposit to begin.  The balance plus shipping is due upon completion.  If you are not happy with the finished piece, there are 2 options.  First, I can make another piece for you for an additional 25%. Secondly, you can apply the money paid towards any piece available on my site or at a show.
